Our favourite baking hacks

Today we are all about baking and sharing our favourite hacks with you.

  1. Use spice to elevate your baked dishes: This goes without saying, spice adds lots and lots of flavour to savoury dishes. Spices like cinnamon and ginger, for instance elevate sweet dishes to another level. The trick is to add 1 tablespoon of spice per kg of cake.
  2. Use a sieve to sift flour: This not only incorporates air into your flour but helps prevent the formation of lumps. A metal sieve is ideal and will last long.
  3. Use your grater for all things sweet and savoury: The grater is one of our best friends in the kitchen. Not only is it great for grating carrots, tomatoes and ginger, it is also perfect for making chocolate shavings for finishing a chocolate cake.
  4. Add baking powder to all-purpose flour instead of using self-raising: Cakes rise evenly when you do this.
  5. Read through your recipe before you begin baking: This may sound obvious but it is very helpful to do this, so that you enjoy the process even more. Preparing your ingredients before you begin baking helps a big deal.
