It’s self-care Saturday!

It’s Saturday and we are all about self-care; treating yourself right, taking some time to pamper yourself and rejuvenate. We are here today with more tips. Enjoy!

  1. Enjoy your breakfast: When was the last time you actually sat down and really enjoyed your breakfast? From making it, being present and indulging your senses? With all the morning rush that the weekday consists of, try as much as you can to indulge in food rich in carbohydrates and proteins that keep you energized throughout the day.
  2. Don’t eat foods you don’t like: We aspire to eat well for the sake of our health and overall well-being but don’t force yourself to consume something you don’t enjoy. Eating healthy shouldn’t be a chore but a joy, a lifestyle that you enjoy and can sustain for a long time. There are so many nutritious and tasty options, don’t stick to kale if you don’t like it!
  3. Volunteer: It’s very important to give your time even your money for a good cause. Serve in your local church/community. It not only blesses others but it adds to you as well.
  4. Have a menu: Planning your meals makes you very aware of what you are consuming. It saves you on money as well as you avoid impulse buying and helps you watch what you are eating especially if you are trying to lose weight or maintain a healthy eating lifestyle.
  5. Enjoy a face-mask treatment: Cue the music, sit comfortably and apply your face mask. Those 10-15 minutes allow you to relax and your skin to get much needed nutrients.

Meet Victoria: Verani Founder and Denri Ambassador

“As an entrepreneur, one needs to have the mindset of a leader,” says Victoria Imani, content creator, founder of Verani Apparel and Denri Africa Brand Ambassador.

Verani Apparel is a custom-print business that does branded clothing for individuals, groups, events and organizations. “Being an entrepreneur so far has been quite the journey of successes, failures, character building, losses, and opportunities. There were two sides of the coin for me, the part that is successful, seen and celebrated by those online or those around you, and the part that is not seen, which include the daily habits one needs to have to build what they have started, the risk of failure, loss, or rejection, and the sacrifices one has to make to achieve the vision for their venture. This has been my first venture, and over time I realized the much I needed to learn, the guidance needed, and how I have a long way to go, especially in growing this business.”

Victoria is also a content creator and currently works as a brand ambassador for Denri Africa. Working as a content creator for a brand has exposed her to exploring and growing in creativity, which again, helps her as an entrepreneur. “It has also led me to learn new technical skills, such as social media management, using digital marketing metrics to grow my personal online presence and brand, working with editing software, and knowing the fundamental basics of photography. I am hoping for more opportunities and exposure as I continue.”

Victoria is also a student in her final year pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specializing in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. “When I started my degree, I was still figuring out what I would like to do with it for I did not want to go through 4 years of university and come out with a certificate that I might never use. One thing I remember thinking though, was, as I continue discovering my passion, getting a little extra pocket money would be nice!”

“Therefore, I started thinking of what I could sell, and came up with many ideas, of which none of them were actualized. I had a friend at the time that came to me with her idea to sell printed t-shirts, while I presented to her one of my ideas to sell unisex hoodies and jeans that perfectly fit any African woman’s body type. We ended up merging ideas, to design and sell custom-printed hoodies, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and jackets, and hopefully venture into jeans later.

This is how we ended up starting the business. ‘Verani’ launched and as time passed, I grew a passion for entrepreneurship, leading me to attend training programs for entrepreneurs and majoring in it at university. However, over time, the partnership broke, and she became the sole owner of the business. Verani Apparel now does branded clothing for individuals, groups, events and organizations.”

What motivates Victoria to keep going is self-mastery, growth, change-making and purpose. She is heavily driven by self-improvement and leadership, for she believes that before you lead others, you need to learn how to lead your own life. The self-leadership you master pours into being a visionary leader that makes an impact not only with the people you work with but also in the lives of the community around you. She aspires to continue being this person that grows and walks in purpose in this way.

“In the future, I plan to venture into agribusiness, for it is one of the industries with the greatest opportunities to grow the economy of our country but is facing a lot of challenges. I aspire to innovate in this space, and hopefully make a solid difference in the industry.”

Essential nutrients for healthy skin

Happy Tuesday! Today we are all about nutrients that keep your skin healthy and nourished. It is very important to eat well so that the skin can fully perform its functions.

1, Protein: Beef, fish, poultry, beans and dairy products are great sources of protein. Proteins are normally converted into amino acids and the body uses that to make collagen and keratin which form the skin structure. Amino acids protect the skin against UV rays as well helping get rid of old skin.

2. Vitamin C: This helps the body produce collagen and is a great antioxidant, protecting the cells from damage. Vitamin C also helps in the healing of wounds and is necessary for the growth, development and repair of all body tissues. Great sources of Vitamin C include; citrus fruits, potatoes and kale.

3. Vitamin A: Liver, kales, cheese and fruits are great sources of Vitamin A. This essential vitamin helps give the skin protection against sunburns and heals cuts as well. Lack of enough Vitamin A causes the skin to get dry and itchy.

4. Healthy fats: Nuts, seeds, fish and avocado are rich in fats that give the skin its glow. The skin remains moist, firm and flexible. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the building of cell walls.

5. Zinc: This helps the skin heal after an injury. Zinc helps keep the cell walls stable and protects the skin against UV damage. It is also a great antioxidant. When there is little zinc in the body, the skin has an itchy rash. Whole grain, milk products, beans, poultry and nuts are excellent sources of zinc.

3. Bold Prints: These are making a comeback. A printed dress or printed blouse worn with pants or a skirt is a great fashion statement.

4. Matching sets: These are so in! From ankara, knitwear, floral prints, and solid colours, matching sets are so fresh and trendy.

5. Statement leather coats: Leather never disappoints. Elevate the look by having eg a crocodile print coat or a mix and match leather trench. These definitely stand out.

Career Monday: Work-life balance

Happy new week! Do you sometimes feel that you are struggling between being productive at work and still wanting to attend to all your life needs? We share some tips that will help improve your work-life balance.

  1. There is no ‘perfect’ work-life balance: The ideal work-life balance may seem like being super productive at work and still being able to be spend time with friends and family as you wish. This is however not a realistic approach, as sometimes you need to put in more hours in your work and other times more in time spent with family, friends even pursuing your hobbies. It is therefore important to be honest with yourself and ask what is a priority at the time and then fully focus on that and be present.
  2. Find a job that you are passionate about: When you love what you do, it most often doesn’t feel like work to you. Yes, you will definitely need to put in the hours for you be successful but because you already are passionate about what you do, you have the motivation to do it.
  3. Make rest a priority: It is important to take care of your body; to rest and rejuvenate. If you need to go off social media for a while, then do so. Your physical, spiritual mental and emotional health is very important and when you are feeling great then you will definitely be productive.
  4. Create time for family and loved ones: In as much as work is important and we spend a huge chunk of our time doing it; it is vital to spend time with the ones we love. Always remember that you still have control of your time, no matter how hectic your schedule is and you should carve out time for the things that make you happy.
  5. Set goals and priorities: It is very important to write down your goals and follow through them. Setting time-bound goals that are achievable enables you to accomplish so much. Avoid distractions as they eat up into time that should be spend doing what is important.

Have a productive week ahead!

Scripture Sunday: Celebrating growth

Happy Sunday! We are a work in progress, continually being changed into what God has called us to be. We therefore should celebrate our growth; what God is doing in our lives. It is important to slow down and see the progress we have made, whether it’s making improvements in an area we asked God to help us in, more financial and material provision etc. Life is a journey, it is vital to enjoy and appreciate the process as much as we are excited about the destination. Being grateful and focusing on the positive things in life, regardless of the challenges is the best way to stay on track. Let us not be blinded by life’s challenges that we don’t see what God is doing in our lives. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 -“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer: Thank you Lord for continually transforming my life. Help me to focus on growth and always be positive and ever grateful. I believe you have great plans for my life and I trust you to guide me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
