Meet Model Nemali Mulati

“I was dared by a friend to go for auditions at an agency and that’s how I got my first modeling contract at House of Legacy. It’s my 4th year in the industry. The fashion industry is a competitive place to delve into, there are ever-changing trends (i.e Reels, TikTok, YouTube shorts), new faces and emerging brands every day. I have had to learn what works for me and what doesn’t as time goes by. I also put my best foot forward, put my priorities straight, network as much as I can and put myself out there,” says model Nemali Mulati. She is a passionate model, who began her career in January 2018.

Nemali showcased during the Skins Diversity in Fashion, show where she got to work with Brands like Couture by Rynna, Ecouture-Kenya (the bold woman fashion) and The Seamstress Kenya. She also got to walk for Romeo Paul designs from Qatar and my fashion brand, Ruth Yole at the Entreprenuer Fashion Week. Besides strutting the runway, she has worked with Magical Kenya as a WRC (World Rally Championship) hostess during the Safari rally. Brands she has worked with include Vivo Woman and Shop Zetu.

“At the beginning, I didn’t know what worked for me, I was still trying to find my seat at the table. Balancing school and modeling; sometimes classes and shows clashed, I’m glad to have recently completed my studies,” says Nemali, who holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Procurement and Contract Management. Sometimes she feels underlooked by brands especially when there’s preferential treatment but she’s learned how to deal with it. She loves experimenting with her hair, trying out different hair dyes and also styles her hair in bold colors. It’s her form of expression.

 Advice to upcoming models, “Whatever makes you unique is your superpower, don’t be afraid to stand out. Put yourself out there and strive to be better every day. Build your portfolio too.” Nemali’s desire to be better every day is her biggest motivation. She has her long-term and short-term goals and they keep her on her toes. Her support system, family and friends, also keep her in check.
