Hearty Pilau

Hey y’all! Here is a yummy pilau recipe, fun to make and delish. Enjoy!

Ingredients

250g beef, chopped and pre-cooked

500g basmati rice

Oil for frying

3 onions, chopped

3 medium sized potatoes

1 bulb garlic, crushed

1/2 ginger, crushed

1 tablespoon pilau masala

1 teaspoon cumin

1 teaspoon basil

35g tomato paste

Water

Salt to taste

Method

  1. In a pan, shallow fry the onions for about 10 minutes till slightly brown.
  2. Add in the meat and stir.
  3. Add in the garlic and ginger and lower the heat to prevent the spices from burning.
  4. Add in two tablespoons of water and let the meat soak in the juices.
  5. Add in the tomato paste, pilau masala, potatoes and stir.
  6. Add in a little water to prevent sticking.
  7.  Add in more hot water to cook the potatoes for 5 minutes till al dente. Ensure the water is hot so as not to slow down the cooking process.
  8. Add in the rice and 1 litre of water and stir.
  9. Add in the basil and cumin and cook for 15 minutes, first on medium heat to simmer and then on low heat.
  10. Serve with banana.
