Ednah Samba is a psychologist and author of the book, ‘The Graduate.’ She is passionate about the youth; especially graduate empowerment. Ednah is involved in conversations around helping students transition from school into the job market, especially in East Africa. Her work includes interview preparation, civil writing as well as creating an online presence.
Empowering students who have grown up in challenging situations inspires Ednah. She says that many brilliant students struggle financially to get well educated and getting exposure to opportunities. Answering questions about “What’s next after graduating?” inspired Ednah to write her book, ‘The Graduate.’ It is a useful tool for students especially between 18-23 years, who are looking to get into employment, the creative space or entrepreneurship. Frequently asked questions around skill and talent are answered in the book. It also has a section on interview preparation; both physical and virtual. Tips on financial discipline and literacy are also included in the book.
‘The Graduate’ is designed for anyone who is preparing to transition or is beginning to think about creating a formal or solid plan for the next stage of life. One of its key strengths is the inclusion of reflective questions that encourage readers to pause and consider their experiences and aspirations. It provides a space for reflection, almost like a journal. As readers go through each chapter and engage with the questions, they can take notes, reflect on their experiences and identify possible action steps to guide them into the next chapters of their lives. How does Ednah juggle her busy life? “Work life balance for me is being present. It’s being present in the moment. So I could be here but I’m thinking about tomorrow, that really brings imbalance. There’s no rest emotionally, physically or mentally,” she says.
Ednah is also involved in youth ministry and shares that ministry is an everyday thing. We are representing God in what we do and should therefore do it with excellence. “First, there is someone you’re representing who is senior to the most senior person; that is the Lord. Secondly, your life sometimes is the only Bible someone will ever read.
She is also passionate about moderation, especially on issues around governance and ethics. Ednah is intentional about having hobbies as one can get caught up with the responsibilities of life. She loves horse riding and riding motorcycles.
