The Graduate: Meet Author Ednah

Ednah Samba is a passionate writer and psychologist, currently working in a scholarship program under an NGO in Nairobi. She is also the author of The Graduate, a book about transition from school into the Kenyan job market. The book is awakened to the beautiful reality of self-employment mastered through entrepreneurship and particularly the use of talents, skills and gifts through which citizens can earn wholesomely.

“The Kenyan job market is known for the true reality of scarce job opportunities. The book clarifies that even though there are limited spaces, refined graduates can still land jobs and get opportunities. This is through, among others, online spaces like LinkedIn and BrighterMonday.” says Samba.

The Graduate, therefore, captures interview preparation, researching an employer, maximizing on skills and talents, new employee performance and pointers to purpose. This is a great book for all since work transitions affect us and our circles.

“It took 9 months to write this book that was birthed out of curiosity; where do all these graduates go each year? My own journey and research on the Ministry of Education and government thoughts about employment and youth, TVETS and colleges inspired the writing of this book.”

The Graduate is available to order via phone:  +254714145109 or email: sambaedna6@gmail.com. It goes for 650/= per copy, delivery charges however apply outside Nairobi.

Ednah has also published her own personal journals, mostly on corporate-related topics like internship behaviour, growth as an employee and revamping online presence. She also manages ‘The Graduate’s Platform’, a page on Facebook and posts on a weekly basis. She also organizes candidate forums, helping them prepare for KCSE, KCPE and CBC exams. In addition to this, she helps prepare young graduates or college students as they get into the workspace.

“Future projects are in the pipeline and have actually begun. As I expand, I will need a team to do this. These projects are community-related, corporate and educational.”

In her free time, Samba loves watching animation like ‘Tinkerbell’, and African movies like ‘Sometimes in April’, ‘Woman King’ and ‘Wakanda’. She also loves to listen, observe, laugh, cook, eat and braid hair, which she does part-time. She does braids, natural hair cornrows and twist-outs.
